Not your Grandparents’ AAUPEvery July the AAUP conducts a Summer Institute that trains faculty in advocacy strategies, financial analysis, media relations, and bargaining techniques. Scheduled by our Department of Organizing and Services, the institute also offers seminars on current issues in higher education. It is held on a different campus every year and seeks to empower new faculty leaders throughout the country. But we also socialize, take boat trips, and enjoy ourselves. A highlight of the 2009 Summer Institute was a faculty band from Ohio performing original songs about the ironies of current academic life. Visit our web site to hear several of their songs: http://www.aaup.org/AAUP/newsroom/Highlights/AkronBoys.htm Since the event was recorded live at our Saturday banquet, you may find it easier to scroll down, where the lyrics are posted, and listen while you read.
